Senior Underwriter - Onshore Energy

Our client, a leading insurance and investment organization providing commercial property and casualty insurance, is seeking to expand their team with a talented Senior Underwriter specializing in Onshore Energy.

Role Purpose

The Onshore Energy Underwriter will join a dynamic Zurich-based team, collaborating closely with counterparts across our European network and in the UK within a matrix structure. The primary focus will be to write profitable Onshore Energy business in alignment with the underwriting plan, utilizing professional judgment to meet target premium revenue, expected return on capital, and business growth, while adhering to underwriting manuals and compliance regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the underwriting strategy and customer/channel propositions that optimize local and regional business opportunities while considering the company's strategy and risk appetite.
  • Support the Underwriting community by managing this market segment and assisting in executing their business strategy.
  • Authorize and/or make recommendations regarding Onshore Energy and associated risk exposures, recognizing local risk appetites and coordinating decisions accordingly.
  • Monitor the marketplace to identify, assess, and recommend actionable insights regarding underwriting opportunities and threats posed by new and emerging risks.
  • Identify and foster opportunities for cross-company collaboration and synergies within the wider group offerings.
  • Provide effective oversight and management of underwriting risks in line with agreed policies and risk appetites, reporting to management with recommendations.
  • Develop broker and client relationships to optimize business-leading opportunities, including organizing or attending regular meetings, presentations, and events.
  • While qualified Risk Engineering skills are optional, knowledge and interpretation abilities are essential.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess significant underwriting experience within the Onshore Energy sector in the European Market, preferably with a focus on Germany, including knowledge of the risk engineering segment. An advanced understanding of this specific class of business, comfort with market wordings, trends, and insurance and reinsurance practices are crucial. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proven skills in relationship building, communication, influencing, and negotiation. Proficiency in both German and English is essential for effective performance in this role.
