Job Opportunity: Senior Underwriter - Onshore Energy

Our client, a leading insurance and investment organization specializing in commercial property and casualty insurance, is seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Underwriter for Onshore Energy to join their dynamic team based in Zurich. This role will involve close collaboration with counterparts across our European network and in the UK, within a matrix structure.

Role Purpose

The primary objective of the Onshore Energy Underwriter is to write profitable business in alignment with the underwriting plan. The ideal candidate will leverage professional judgment to achieve target premium revenue, expected return on capital, and business growth, while adhering to the underwriting manual along with general compliance, regulatory, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementing the underwriting strategy, portfolio, and customer/channel propositions that optimize local and regional business opportunities in alignment with the company's overall strategy and risk appetite.
  • Supporting the underwriting community by underwriting this market segment and assisting in the execution of their business strategy.
  • Authorizing and/or recommending decisions related to Onshore Energy risks while recognizing local risk appetites and coordinating this into a final underwriting judgment.
  • Monitoring the marketplace to identify and assess underwriting opportunities and threats presented by new and emerging risks.
  • Identifying and developing opportunities for cross-company collaboration and synergies within the wider group offerings.
  • Delivering effective oversight and managing underwriting risks in accordance with agreed policies and risk appetites, while reporting and making recommendations to management.
  • Building broker and client relationships to maximize opportunities for leading business, which includes arranging or attending regular meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Possessing qualified risk engineering skills is optional; however, the ability to interpret relevant information is required.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess significant underwriting experience within the Onshore Energy sector in the European market, preferably in Germany, which also encompasses the risk engineering segment. A thorough understanding of market wordings, trends, and both insurance and reinsurance practices is essential. Exceptional skills in relationship building, communication, influencing, and negotiation are crucial. Fluency in both German and English will be vital for effective performance in this role.
