Job Opportunity: Senior Trader

To expand our already existing business, we are seeking a Senior Trader to join our team. This role is critical for our proprietary trading of energy commodities, including power, gas, coal, and emission allowances, with the primary goal of achieving consistent profits.

In day-to-day operations, the Senior Trader will track European commodity markets and strategize on executing proprietary trading in the most effective manner. A risk mandate will be provided to maximize profits while minimizing risks.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Conduct proprietary trading of power and related products such as spark spreads, EUAs, natural gas, and coal in the wholesale energy market, with a focus on CWE.
  • Concentrate on mid- and long-term products, typically trading from one month ahead to two years out.
  • Build and develop positive relationships with market participants.
  • Develop and maintain market research tools and conduct thorough market analysis.
  • Generate positive P&L and capitalize on market opportunities based on market condition analyses.
  • Demonstrate profitable success in managing a power trading book.
  • Ensure the ETRM system operates at a required standard to maintain accurate and secure records.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments within the company and the EPH Group.

Qualification Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of international work experience in commodity trading, with a deep understanding of the commodity industry and market dynamics.
  • A minimum of 8 years of comprehensive experience in power and gas trading, specifically in the European commodity markets (especially Switzerland, Germany, and the UK).
  • At least 8 years of experience in optimizing gas and power portfolios, with a strong understanding of power trading dynamics.
  • Proven track record in business process and data management.
  • An established network with other market participants and industry players in the CWE region.
  • Proficiency in English is essential.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and structured thinking.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.
  • Creativity and independent thought in problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate trading profits in energy markets.
