We are seeking a highly motivated and curious Senior Scientist to join our Biologics Discovery team at the Biomedical Research facility in Basel, Switzerland. You will participate in the generation of high-quality therapeutic antibodies by setting up and conducting high-throughput functional assays for diverse disease applications.

About the Role

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and operate high-throughput functional cell-based assays (e.g., reporter gene assays, killing assays) for the selection and characterization of antibody drug candidates.
  • Collaborate closely with the automation team to transfer established assays onto a suitable automation platform for increased throughput and reliability.
  • Apply multiple cutting-edge selection techniques to synthetic and immune antibody libraries, such as phage display, yeast display, mammalian display, FACS sorting, and plate-based screening. Characterize identified leads through various affinity and activity assays, including ELISA, FACS, Octet, and functional & biochemical assays.
  • Engineer and improve binders using affinity maturation or humanization techniques.
  • Analyze experimental data and present scientific interpretations in project team meetings. Contribute to the evaluation or development of new methods and technologies.
  • Work cooperatively within a team of 3 scientists, reporting to a lab head.

What You Will Bring to the Role

  • Master's Degree in Molecular & Cell Biology or a related field, with a background in antibody discovery, immunology, or oncology.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a Biotech or Pharma company.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology.
  • Experience in developing and executing high-throughput functional and biochemical assays.
  • Experience in multiple antibody screening assays including ELISA, FACS, and functional cell-based assays.
  • Hands-on experience with data analytics platforms or software such as Spotfire.
  • Hands-on experience with data management systems such as Genedata Biologics is considered a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in antibody discovery using Phage and/or Yeast Display is considered a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with liquid handling systems (e.g., Beckman, Hamilton, Tecan) is considered a plus.
  • Ability to critically interpret results, develop and implement innovative methodologies and processes by taking calculated risks and making smart decisions.
  • A collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm to develop yourself and others.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality data.
  • Aptitude to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented matrix environment.
  • Fluency in English is essential (oral/written); advanced knowledge of German and/or French is advantageous.
