Senior Scientist / Research Group Lead Position in Translational Vascular Research
The Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ/UZH), under the leadership of Director Professor Alexander Zimmermann, invites qualified candidates for the role of Senior Scientist / Research Group Lead in the field of translational vascular research.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the Swiss Vascular Biobank, a renowned platform providing access to high-quality human vascular tissues. This biobank is notable for being one of the largest resources for aortic tissue, including samples from aneurysms, dissections, and control aortas.
The position involves leading an independent research program that bridges clinical and molecular vascular biology, with a focus on aortic diseases such as aneurysms and dissections. This opportunity is tailored for candidates aspiring to achieve scientific independence and secure competitive funding, such as SNF or ERC grants.
Key Responsibilities
- Scientific leadership and ongoing development of the Swiss Vascular Biobank.
- Continued independent translational research specifically targeting aortic diseases.
- Supervision of laboratory personnel, students, and junior researchers.
- Design and execution of research projects involving human vascular tissues, molecular biology, histology and immunohistochemistry, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenetics, and non-coding RNAs, utilizing primary patient-derived vascular cells.
- Integration of clinical data with molecular datasets.
- Preparation of competitive grant applications (SNF, ERC, foundations).
- Ensuring compliance with Swiss regulatory frameworks (HFG/HFV, KEK).
Your Profile
- PhD or MD/PhD in life sciences, medicine, or a related field.
- Several years of postdoctoral experience.
- Demonstrated experience in leading or coordinating laboratory teams and supervising students and/or technical staff.
- Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications and successful grant writing (ideally funded or competitive submissions).
- Strong expertise in translational research with human tissues.
- Experience with omics approaches (RNA-seq, transcriptomics, proteomics).
- Ability to work at the interface of clinical and experimental research.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
