A focal point of our ERI is the Zurich Research Centre (ZRC) in Switzerland, which features a new research laboratory dedicated to exploring the first generation of composable-native computing infrastructure, emphasizing the merger of scale-up and scale-out fabrics.
The laboratory's research initiatives will involve not just Huawei’s internal research staff but also our academic partners from universities across Europe. This lab aims to foster an “open research environment,” where academics are encouraged to collaborate and engage in profound long-term research alongside Huawei personnel in a setting that mirrors the best universities and research institutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct cutting-edge research to develop the first generation of composable-native computer systems, optimizing elasticity and independent scaling of compute, memory, and I/O. This includes integrating applications, parallel programming, computer networks, interconnects, and architecture.
- Develop and prototype new architectural features and enhancements.
- Produce and present research papers at prestigious conferences and write white papers on current developments and future directions of research.
- Establish and maintain research partnerships with leading universities and renowned academics.
- Mentor junior researchers and interns.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in Computer Interconnects, Computer Architecture, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) is essential.
- Proven track record of publishing research papers in top-tier conferences or journals.
- Creativity and the ability to think innovatively to develop groundbreaking technologies.
- Research experience and/or strong knowledge in several of the following areas:
- Parallel programming models such as MPI, OpenSHEM, or Collectives.
- Network stacks, architectures, and systems in datacenters (e.g., RoCE, Ultra-Ethernet) or supercomputer clusters (Infiniband, Slingshot, Gemini/Aries).
- Scale-up fabrics such as PCIe, CXL, NVLink, UPI, or IF.
- RPC protocols and stacks such as gRPC or Thrift.
- Knowledge in Deep Learning, Recommenders, Generative AI, hardware-software co-design, or cloud computing is advantageous.
- Excellent intercultural communication, coordination, presentation, and reporting skills, facilitating effective collaboration in a research environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work independently.
