The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich invites experienced scientists specializing in manufacturing to join our team. The initial appointment will be made at the scientific collaborator level (non-permanent), with the intended promotion to senior scientist (permanent) and the awarding of an Adjunct Professor title in accordance with ETH rules.

Job Description

Successful candidates are expected to lead a world-class research and teaching program that emphasizes industrial translation in the field of manufacturing. We seek outstanding scientists with demonstrated expertise in subtractive manufacturing (cutting, milling, grinding, electro discharge machining), as well as in production machines and machine tools. The selected candidate will leverage their knowledge to address industry-relevant research challenges such as:

  • Controlling high-precision production machines
  • Optimizing machine tools
  • Conceiving sustainable manufacturing processes

This position is envisioned as part of ETH Zurich's Center for Manufacturing, which will be established in the coming months. The individual will also support the development and execution of educational and mentoring activities, as well as supervise doctoral students in the area of subtractive manufacturing and machine tools. Additionally, the role includes collaboration opportunities with inspire AG, ETH's strategic partner in technology transfer to the mechanical, electrical, and metal (MEM) industries.

Profile

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in engineering and possess an excellent record of accomplishment in conducting academic and/or industrial research on the aforementioned topics. A high motivation for teaching in the field is required, particularly in project-based courses with hands-on learning experiences. At MAVT, undergraduate-level courses are taught in German or English, while graduate-level courses are conducted in English.

Your profile should complement research and teaching at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) and the Institute for Virtual Manufacturing (IVP).
