The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich invites experienced scientists specializing in manufacturing to join our team. The initial appointment will be at the scientific collaborator level (non-permanent), with the intention of promoting the successful candidate to senior scientist (permanent) status and awarding an Adjunct Professor title in accordance with ETH's regulations.
Successful candidates are expected to lead a world-class research and teaching program that emphasizes industrial translation in the field of manufacturing. We seek outstanding scientists with demonstrated expertise in subtractive manufacturing processes such as cutting, milling, grinding, and electro discharge machining. The ideal candidate will leverage their knowledge to tackle industry-relevant research challenges, including:
This position is anticipated to be part of ETH's Center for Manufacturing, which will be established in the coming months. The selected candidate will contribute to developing and executing educational and mentoring activities, as well as supervising doctoral students in the area of subtractive manufacturing and machine tools. Furthermore, the role includes supporting the acquisition and coordination of industry-focused projects involving various ETH students and researchers. There are also collaboration opportunities with inspire AG, ETH's strategic partner for technology transfer to the mechanical, electrical, and metal (MEM) industries.
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in engineering and possess an excellent record of accomplishments in both academic and industrial research on the aforementioned topics. A strong motivation for teaching in this field is essential, particularly in project-based courses with hands-on learning experiences. At MAVT, undergraduate courses are offered in German or English, while graduate courses are taught exclusively in English. Your profile should complement the research and teaching initiatives at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) and the Institute for Virtual Manufacturing (IVP).
