The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich invites experienced scientists specializing in manufacturing to apply for the position of Senior Researcher. The initial appointment will be at the scientific collaborator level (non-permanent), with the intended promotion to senior scientist (permanent) and the awarding of an Adjunct Professor title in accordance with ETH regulations.
We are seeking exceptional candidates to lead a world-class research and teaching program focused on industrial translation in the field of manufacturing. Ideal applicants will have demonstrated expertise in subtractive manufacturing techniques, including cutting, milling, grinding, and electro discharge machining, along with knowledge of production machines and machine tools. This role is envisaged to be a key part of ETH's upcoming Center for Manufacturing. The selected candidate will contribute to developing and executing educational and mentoring activities, as well as supervising doctoral students specializing in subtractive manufacturing and machine tools. Additionally, the role includes supporting the acquisition and coordination of industry-focused projects that engage numerous ETH students and researchers. You will also have opportunities for collaboration with inspire AG, ETH’s strategic partner for technology transfer to the mechanical, electrical, and metal (MEM) industries.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in engineering and have a strong track record in conducting academic and/or industrial research relevant to manufacturing. A passion for teaching, particularly in project-based courses with hands-on learning experiences, is essential. Courses at the undergraduate level in the Department are taught in both German and English, while graduate-level courses are provided in English. Your expertise should complement research and teaching at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) and the Institute for Virtual Manufacturing (IVP).
