Research Scientist Position at ABB

As a Research Scientist, you will work on sensing solutions for ABB’s next-generation systems and products. Your Responsibilities

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Contributing to and leading research projects in the field of sensors and industrial sensing applications, addressing the needs of our businesses, with applications including automation, process industries, and electrification.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from concept definition through to experimental verification.
• Evaluating new technologies and conducting technical surveys, generating project proposals with business impact, and working alongside researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities.
• Disseminating your results through scientific publications and internal technical reports, while generating intellectual property.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you should possess:

• A PhD university degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge in signal processing and data analytics (including machine learning/deep learning-based techniques), such as denoising, feature extraction, time-series analysis, anomaly detection, signal classification, and pattern recognition.
• Hands-on experience with testing, design, simulation, and validation of electronic systems, including embedded electronics and wireless connectivity, as well as data-driven validation and edge/embedded machine learning deployment.
• A solid track record of developing concepts into prototypes.
• A strong interest in sensing technologies and the integration of sensors within systems, with contextual knowledge in electrification-related applications being a plus.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C/C++, Python, Matlab, and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch), along with experience using coding agents.
• Excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude, and a strong command of the English language (both written and oral).
