The Opportunity

You will be a part of our Advanced Technology team, where we push the boundaries of robot autonomy and intelligence. In this role, you will evaluate state-of-the-art AI, planning, and control technologies—from innovative environment perception to advanced planning—to tackle some of the toughest real-world deployment challenges. Collaborating with engineers and partners, you will assess new technologies, design proof-of-concept experiments, build research prototypes, and swiftly transfer promising ideas to our product teams. Your contributions will help shape our technology roadmap, guiding long-term strategy and ensuring every solution is robust, reliable, and ready for impact. ANYbotics transforms industrial plants in the (renewable) energy, process, and utility sectors by introducing robotics to a wide range of novel applications that were previously beyond reach. Our mobile robot, ANYmal, employs legs for exceptional mobility in complex environments and utilizes camera- and LIDAR-based sensing for full autonomy and obstacle avoidance, delivering high-quality, consistent inspection results. We develop numerous customized hardware systems, including the entire robotic platform, actuators, sensors, inspection payloads, charging systems, and all related ANYbotics electrical hardware.

Your Contributions

• Exploring, developing, and implementing cutting-edge technological advancements in robotics, machine learning, planning, and control.
• Identifying emerging technologies, conducting in-depth evaluations, and translating these findings into innovative products.
• Developing prototypes and conducting pilot projects to test new technologies in controlled environments.
• Driving collaborations with tech startups, research institutions, and industry leaders to leverage external expertise and accelerate innovation.
• Connecting with engineering teams for the adoption and integration of new technologies into existing systems and processes, ensuring a seamless transition.

Your Profile

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, AI, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience in a research or advanced development setting.
• Excellent expertise in modern deep reinforcement learning techniques and architectures, with hands-on experience in training and fine-tuning such systems.
• Proficient in designing and deploying state-of-the-art control and planning algorithms for real-world robotics or autonomous systems.
• Strong practical experience across the MLOps pipeline—from data collection and curation to training, fine-tuning, and GPU-based deployment in embedded or edge systems.
• Skilled in fast prototyping, concept validation, and rapid iteration; utilizing experimentation as a core development tool.
• Self-coordinated and able to take project ownership, structuring work independently while aligning with strategic goals to deliver meaningful outcomes.
• Good programming skills in C++ and Python, with the ability to write clean and efficient code.
• Familiarity with GPU programming and a willingness to deepen knowledge and performance tuning as needed.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively share knowledge and insights.
