Position Overview

This position reports to the Engineering Manager. In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage in design, implementation, upgrade, and retrofit activities aimed at expanding ABB’s 800xA DCS and AC800M-based process control systems, as well as auxiliary systems for plant automation applications.

With a keen focus on cybersecurity, you will serve as the design authority for the process automation portion of projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions. You will apply design thinking and design for excellence principles in your projects while collaborating with other teams to integrate the latest ABB solutions in plant automation, electrical integration, and energy management systems.

Responsibilities

• Plan and engineer the integration of automation systems, primarily within the mining industry and minerals processing.
• Conduct quality inspections and factory acceptance tests, commissioning our solutions at customer locations, and support customers in resolving technical issues both remotely and onsite worldwide to enhance customer satisfaction.
• Interact and collaborate with engineering peers across multiple locations while assisting project managers and lead engineers in technical reviews and discussions with customers, partners, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Provide technical details and cost calculations for sales proposals.

Your Background

• Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechatronics, automation, or systems engineering, with a focus on industrial IT and automation systems.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial control systems or automation, including commissioning and familiarity with process DCS systems (software and hardware), particularly ABB 800xA or similar.
• Understanding of TCP/IP networks, communication, and fieldbus protocols like Profibus/Net, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, along with the ability to apply cybersecurity practices in line with the IEC 62443 standard framework.
• Knowledge of energy distribution concepts, electrical networks, and related equipment.
• Strong self-motivation, curiosity, and a commitment to learning about new technologies; you should also possess a collaborative, solution-oriented approach for discussing and presenting ideas with internal and external customers.
• Excellent technical communication skills and business fluency in English (both written and spoken); basic German language skills are advantageous.
• Willingness and ability to travel worldwide for commissioning and service activities (30%).
