Position Overview

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and offers a unique opportunity to engage in the design, implementation, upgrade, and retrofit activities that expand ABB’s 800xA DCS and AC800M-based process control systems, alongside auxiliary systems for plant automation applications.

With a focus on cybersecurity, you will serve as the design authority for the process automation aspects of projects, ensuring a cost-effective approach.

You’ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills by applying design thinking and design for excellence concepts in various projects. In collaboration with other teams, you will integrate the latest ABB solutions in plant automation, electrical integration, and energy management systems.

Your Responsibilities

• Plan and engineer the integration of automation systems, primarily within the mining and minerals processing industries.
• Conduct quality inspections and factory acceptance tests, and commission our solutions at customer locations while providing technical support to resolve issues both remotely and on-site worldwide, enhancing customer satisfaction throughout all project stages.
• Interact and collaborate with engineering peers across multiple locations, assisting project managers and lead engineers in technical reviews and discussions with customers, partners, subcontractors, and vendors. Assess the impacts of project requirements on execution.
• Provide technical specifications and cost calculations for sales proposals.

Your Background

• Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering fields such as electrical, mechatronics, automation, or systems engineering, focused on Industrial IT and automation systems.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial control systems or automation, including commissioning experience and familiarity with process DCS systems (software and hardware), such as ABB 800xA or similar.
• Proficient knowledge of TCP/IP networks, communication, and fieldbus protocols like Profibus/Net, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, combined with a solid understanding of cybersecurity practices according to the IEC 62443 standard framework.
• Understanding of energy distribution concepts, electrical networks, and related equipment.
• A self-motivated approach to effectively manage your tasks, with a commitment to learning about new technologies, alongside a collaborative and solution-oriented demeanor for discussing and presenting ideas to reach agreements with both internal and external customers.
• Strong technical communication skills and business fluency in English (both written and spoken); basic German language skills are advantageous.
• Willingness and ability to travel for global commissioning and service activities (30%).
