Description

Pi Imaging Technology is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the creation of highly sensitive, low-noise single-photon detector arrays. We empower our partners to launch innovative products used in cutting-edge scientific research across the life sciences, including confocal microscopy and fluorescence (FLIM) imaging, as well as in quantum information. Our technology, based on single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) designed using standard semiconductor practices, enables photon-counting arrays with megapixel resolution and adaptable architectures. These arrays integrate seamlessly into plug-and-play products, supported by FPGA firmware and C++ software to ensure a smooth operating experience for our end-users.

Position Description

As a key member of a small electronics engineering team, you will be involved in a variety of tasks related to the development of both new and existing products, including:

  • Developing FPGA firmware and software for a high-speed serial communication interface
  • Designing PCBs for high-speed serial communication/storage solutions, along with high-bandwidth connections for detector arrays
  • Verifying firmware and software while addressing bugs reported by end-users
  • Conducting initial bring-up and characterization of new detectors
  • Procuring components and assembly services for prototypes
  • Assembling proof-of-concept and prototype designs

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in electronics engineering or a related field
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to execute multiple tasks efficiently and independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in C++, VHDL, and Altium Designer
  • Experience designing FPGA firmware in VHDL under tight timing constraints
  • Familiarity with high-speed serial communication technologies (e.g., Xilinx Aurora, PCI-E)
  • Background in test and measurement requirements
  • Proficiency in data analysis software, such as Python or similar

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Knowledge of statistics, including Poisson and exponential distributions
  • Familiarity with semiconductor technology
  • Understanding of the testing required to validate semiconductor chips
