The successful candidate will lead an in vivo imaging facility dedicated to supporting the drug discovery process. This includes assessing pharmacological interventions through imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, computerized tomography, and optical imaging in relevant small rodent disease models, as well as identifying and characterizing imaging biomarkers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the in vivo imaging facility and manage laboratory associates, coordinating activities and technical development.
- Maintain equipment infrastructure while improving techniques to address biological questions related to ongoing projects.
- Develop, adapt, and program imaging and spectroscopy protocols relevant to preclinical pharmacological studies.
- Interpret, analyze, and report data from these techniques, presenting results at team meetings and to management boards.
- Design, execute, analyze, and report on state-of-the-art in vivo experiments involving imaging and spectroscopy.
- Integrate in vivo imaging findings with ex vivo tissue and biofluid analyses.
- Coordinate with project team members and animal facilities to ensure successful execution of complex in vivo studies.
- Support the characterization of translational imaging biomarker candidates in collaboration with the clinical imaging group at Novartis.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD and postdoctoral research in a relevant discipline (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or Life Science) with 2-3 years of industry experience or equivalent academic experience, focusing on extensive in vivo experimentation and research.
- Demonstrated in vivo imaging experience of small rodents documented through publications.
- Lab experience in in vivo MR techniques and the technical expertise to guide their application in experimentation.
- Prior management experience in an in vivo imaging laboratory, demonstrating people leadership skills.
- Highly motivated to explore diseases of aging and regenerative medicine.
- Proactive, inquisitive mindset with the ability to formulate, articulate, and critically evaluate scientific experiments.
- Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to thrive in cross-disciplinary environments.
- High learning agility and a desire to stay updated on the latest advancements in animal research.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, complemented by strong presentation skills.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in in vivo anatomical (MRI, CT, ultrasound) and molecular imaging techniques (e.g., PET, optical), as well as in vivo spectroscopy (e.g., 31P MRS).
- Programming skills in the Bruker environment and image analysis software (e.g., Matlab).
- Data analysis and hypothesis testing expertise.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Accreditation for animal experimentation (LTK1/LTK2, FELASA B, or equivalent).
