Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on the next generation of Neural Processing Units (NPUs), focusing on core micro-architecture, including frontend mechanisms (branch prediction, BTB, instruction prefetching), register files, and functional unit design.
  • Investigate and prototype new architectural features, including:
    • NPU Core Micro-architecture: Explore designs that maximize throughput for AI workloads.
    • NPU Backend and Memory System: Develop structures that maintain high bandwidth and low latency.
    • Agentic CPU Architecture: Create processors that effectively handle tool calling and context management alongside accelerator-bound tasks.
    • Resilience to Bursty Compute and Context Switching: Innovate for rapid context switching and higher concurrency levels.
  • Produce and present research papers at leading conferences and journals (e.g., ASPLOS, ISCA, MICRO, HPCA).
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with top academic institutions.
  • Mentor junior researchers and interns in their professional development.

Requirements

  • MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in Computer Architecture and Micro-architecture is essential.
  • Creativity and the ability to innovate in technology development.
  • Research experience or knowledge in:
    • Computer Architecture of modern Intel/ARM/AMD CPUs, Nvidia GPUs, or Google’s TPUs.
    • Familiarity with architecture simulators: Gem5, ChampSim, Sniper, ZSim, or QFlex.
    • Vector and Matrix Extensions: ARM SVE/SME or Intel SSE/AVX/AMX.
    • Understanding of GPU programming models such as CUDA.
    • Experience in micro-architecture profiling and bottleneck analysis on CPU/GPUs through Performance Monitoring Units (PMUs).
  • Proven track record of publications in esteemed conferences or journals.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and system-level thinking abilities.
  • Strong development and prototyping skills are mandatory.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with both collaborative and independent work capabilities.
