OVERVIEW
Are you a highly experienced and autonomous IP paralegal with a passion for building and optimizing IP processes? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where your expertise in both patent and trademark matters will directly contribute to our success? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you in Zug, Switzerland!
Amrize is the name of the North American business of Holcim following the execution of the planned spin-off in H1 2025. As an independent public company, Amrize will be North America’s leading building solutions company from foundation to rooftop.
As we build our foundation, intellectual property will be a critical asset at Amrize, and we are seeking a proactive and self-directed Senior IP Paralegal to establish and maintain systems for the effective management of the IP portfolio. The Senior IP Paralegal will be a member of the legal team directly supporting the Senior IP Counsel in connection with all aspects of IP acquisition and management. This position ensures that Amrize’s patents, trademarks, domain names, and other intellectual property are effectively managed to support business objectives. As the company’s intellectual property assets are primarily leveraged to support North American operations, primarily in the United States and Canada, the ideal candidate will be familiar with the patent and trademark practices of these jurisdictions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- System Development and Implementation: Lead the design, development, and implementation of internal organizational systems and workflows for efficient IP management, extending beyond the IP management software.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate regular meetings between branding and innovation teams, preparing IP-related reports and presentations. This includes documenting trademark requests, coordinating clearance searches and application filings with external counsel for trademarks and domain names, gathering and coordinating reviews of new invention disclosures, as well as coordinating patent-related searches and application filings with external counsel.
- Record Keeping and Information Gathering: Collect, organize, and maintain comprehensive records related to IP filings, prosecution, maintenance, litigation, and IP-related contracts. Prepare and coordinate the creation of IP-related reports and presentations for various stakeholders, including branding and innovation teams, periodic portfolio reviews, and reports required for compliance as a US and Swiss publicly traded company.
- Due Diligence: Gather, organize, and maintain IP documentation and conduct preliminary IP asset reviews in the context of mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, including verifying record accuracy, chain of title analysis, and post-acquisition rights transfers.
- Docketing and Portfolio Management: Oversee and maintain accurate information on all Amrize IP assets within the docketing system. Ensure accurate entry and tracking of critical filing dates, deadlines, and actions. Conduct routine audits and address discrepancies to maintain data integrity.
- Deadline Management: Proactively track and ensure timely completion of key deadlines, including office actions and renewals, establishing internal reminders for effective monitoring.
- Filing and Correspondence: Coordinate patent and trademark filings between Senior IP Counsel and external counsel and manage related correspondence with the relevant patent offices, including formalities such as assignments, declarations, and powers of attorney. While not immediately anticipated, there may be opportunities to handle direct filings with national IP offices in the future.
- Please note: The responsibilities outlined above are intended to provide a general overview. As Amrize grows and its needs develop as a publicly traded company, the specific duties of this role are expected to vary. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and adaptable individual who is willing and eager to embrace new challenges and grow the scope of this role as required.
