This position resides within our Ag & Trading enterprise, where we connect producers and users of grains and oilseeds worldwide through origination, trading, processing, and distribution. Additionally, we provide a range of farmer services and risk management solutions.

Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Oil Analyst will engage in highly complex trading analytics efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing markets and economic factors, developing, interpreting, and maintaining sophisticated models, tools, and processes to guide the team in making informed trading and risk management decisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development, enhancement, and execution of complex models and processes to forecast supply, demand, and refinery margin drivers related to prices, focusing on crude oil or petroleum products as necessary.
  • Regularly monitor refinery news and petroleum market developments to provide timely insights to models.
  • Present weekly updates on fundamental changes in a systematic and comprehensive manner, alongside daily interactions with traders.
  • Benchmark model outputs against external perspectives systematically to identify discrepancies between market expectations and internal analyses.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and actionable insights and responses to the trading team’s inquiries and other key stakeholders to support business decisions.
  • Develop, coordinate, and support initiatives for technology and data analytics related to trading data in collaboration with the head of analytics.
  • Independently manage complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating only the most challenging problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience analyzing fundamentals, with preferred expertise in distillates, fuel oil, crude oil, and light ends in that order.
  • Solid expertise in Python programming is essential, with working knowledge of SQL required.
  • Experience collaborating with trading teams is a significant advantage.
