Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Oil Analyst will engage in highly complex trading analytics initiatives. In this role, you will provide critical analysis of markets and economic factors, develop, interpret, and maintain sophisticated models, tools, and processes that guide the team in making informed trading and risk management decisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development, enhancement, and execution of complex models and processes to forecast supply, demand, and refinery margin drivers in the context of pricing, focusing on crude oil or petroleum products as required by the desk.
  • Regularly monitor refinery news and petroleum market developments to furnish timely input to models.
  • Present weekly updates on changes to fundamentals in a systematic and comprehensive manner, along with daily communication and interactions with traders.
  • Benchmark model outputs to external views systematically to identify discrepancies between market expectations and internal analysis.
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and actionable insights and responses to the trading team’s inquiries and other key stakeholders to inform business decisions.
  • Develop, coordinate, and support initiatives for technology and data analytics in collaboration with the head of analytics.
  • Independently tackle complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating only the most intricate problems to the appropriate staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of work experience analyzing fundamentals, with preferred experience in distillates, fuel oil, crude oil, and light ends.
  • Solid expertise in Python programming is essential, along with a working knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience collaborating with trading teams is a valuable asset.
