Your Mission

Job Description

Manufacturing Process Expert: As Climeworks' core expert in the operation of novel manufacturing lines for sorbent filter production, you will oversee the development, startup, and operation of these processes.

Own all aspects of manufacturing process engineering:

  • Understand process parameters and their impact on products.
  • Evaluate and optimize parameter ranges used in equipment purchases and during startup.
  • Lead manufacturing process ramp-up, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Manage and conduct process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) throughout the startup phase.
  • Ensure robust documentation, training, and knowledge transfer.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal R&D, quality characterization, product design, and sorbent/process development teams to ensure high-quality sorbent module production while supporting the development of new testing methods.

External Partnerships & Technical Leadership: Serve as a key technical expert collaborating with external partners to meet DAC-specific manufacturing requirements for sorbent filters, providing on-site oversight as necessary.

Team Player: Support lab-scale manufacturing in R&D and assist in evaluating new concepts for future-oriented DAC solutions when required.

Your Story

Requirements

Educational Background: A degree in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field.

Work Experience: Approximately 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with significant experience in startup phases and delivering commercial products successfully.

Field Expertise: Experience with continuous manufacturing lines, particularly in powder handling processes, including knowledge of HSE regulations and ATEX requirements.

Methods: A logical thinker with experience in process modeling approaches and structured risk-identification and problem-solving tools (e.g., process FMEA, 5 Whys, Fishbone).

Working Style & Ownership: Proactive and results-driven, with attention to detail and hands-on involvement throughout the complete development cycle—from the lab to high-level evaluations.

Communication & Project Leadership: Ability to collaborate across teams, communicate effectively, and lead both internal and external projects.

Language Skills: Proficiency in English and at least B1-level proficiency in German; knowledge of French is a plus.

Travel & Location Flexibility: A regular on-site presence in Zurich is required during the first six months, and you should be open to frequent travel (up to 60%, primarily between Zurich and the Munich area).
