Your Mission
Job Description:
As a Manufacturing Process Expert, you will be Climeworks’ core authority on the operational processes of novel manufacturing lines for sorbent filter production, throughout development, startup, and operation.
You will own all aspects of manufacturing process engineering to produce new sorbent filter material, collaborating closely with manufacturing engineers and product owners. Your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding process parameters and their impact on the product
- Evaluating and optimizing parameter ranges for equipment purchases and startup
- Leading manufacturing process ramp-up, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
- Conducting process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) before, during, and after the startup phase
- Ensuring thorough documentation, training, and knowledge transfer
Your role will also involve:
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will work closely with internal experts in R&D, characterization/quality, product design, and sorbent/process development to ensure manufacturing parameters guarantee high-quality sorbent modules.
- External Partnerships & Technical Leadership: You will serve as a key technical expert in collaborations with external partners, ensuring that DAC-specific requirements for sorbent filter manufacturing are met, including on-site monitoring of operations as needed.
- Team Player: Where necessary, you will support lab-scale manufacturing in R&D and assist in evaluating new concepts for future-oriented DAC solutions.
Your Story
Requirements:
- Educational Background: A degree in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
- Work Experience: 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including substantial experience with startup phases and successfully delivering commercial products.
- Field Expertise: Experience with continuous manufacturing lines, including powder handling processes (compliance with HSE regulations and ATEX requirements).
- Methods: Logic-driven and experienced with process modeling approaches (heat and mass transfer, etc.) as well as structured risk identification and problem-solving tools (e.g., process FMEA, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
- Working Style & Ownership: Results-driven, detail-oriented, and hands-on throughout the full development cycle—from lab to high-level evaluations.
- Communication & Project Leadership: Able to collaborate smoothly across teams, communicate effectively, and lead both in-house and external projects.
- Language & Travel Flexibility: Fluent in English, at least B1 in German, and open to frequent travel (up to 60%, primarily between the Munich area and Zurich area). Competence in French is an advantage.
