Senior Legal Counsel - ART

We are currently seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) team, based in either Munich, Germany, or Wallisellen, Switzerland.

Your Team

Allianz Commercial’s dedicated ART team provides personalized solutions to clients as they manage, control, and reduce risk. These solutions encompass multi-year, multi-line insurance products, as well as fronting and captive reinsurance services.

The Impact You Will Have

In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Legal ART and will be responsible for providing expert legal and transaction-specific advice. This includes legal sign-off on regulatory matters such as cross-border regulations and licensing issues.

Your global responsibilities will include:

• Assessing the legality and enforceability of various structural features, including insurable interest and indemnification agreements.
• Overseeing distribution, intermediary management, and market conduct.
• Establishing and executing global ART Line of Business (LoB) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Transaction Support: Guide global ART LoB business units through negotiating and executing (re-)insurance transactions, focusing on European and international markets.
• Documentation Alignment: Collaborate with the Deal Modeler to ensure transaction documentation aligns with modeled structures.
• Distribution Leadership: Manage distribution partners and ensure regulatory compliance across global distribution agreements.
• Governance & Best Practices: Support underwriting governance, conduct legal reviews, and provide training to management and business teams.
• Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Foster collaboration with AGCS Legal & Compliance teams and maintain a network within the Allianz Group.
• Coaching & Leadership: Participate in underwriting committees and coach the underwriting community on sound business judgment.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

• Advanced Legal and Transactional Knowledge: Expertise in alternative risk transfer transactions involving insurance and reinsurance.
• Legal Qualification: Qualified as a lawyer in Germany, Switzerland, or Austria.
• Corporate and Regulatory Expertise: Strong understanding of corporate and regulatory landscapes impacting ART LoB.
• Extensive Experience: Over 15 years in financial services, as in-house counsel or law firm professional.
• Collaborative Skills: Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural teams.
• Analytical Strengths: Strong negotiation and communication skills for handling complex issues.
• Professional Acumen: Independent judgment and a solid understanding of finance and financing structures.
• AI Awareness: Commitment to ethical AI practices and staying informed about emerging technologies.
