Join Our Team at Adaptyv
At Adaptyv, our high-throughput cloud lab empowers protein designers to validate their proteins with a simple click. We are developing advanced molecular biology workflows, assay automation, and software infrastructure to assist our users in engineering superior proteins. Since our beta access launch in June 2024, we've experienced rapid growth and are collaborating with the most dynamic protein design teams worldwide, including tech bio startups, major AI companies, and leading pharmaceutical firms.
About the Role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Lab Automation Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating various lab automation devices, such as liquid handlers, robotic arms, and plate readers, to enable fully autonomous protein engineering workflows in our Foundry.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement new protocols on automated liquid handling systems, focusing on efficient processes for DNA synthesis and assembly, protein expression, and protein in-vitro assays.
- Envision and design workflows and optimal setups for current and future versions of laboratory automation capabilities, collaborating with various vendors and device manufacturers.
- Work closely with our Biology Team to integrate new protocols and assays into our automated platform.
- Optimize and standardize pipetting and liquid handling protocols to ensure precision and consistency in experimental procedures, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance lab efficiency and accuracy through automation.
- Write and maintain software code to ensure seamless integration of laboratory data with our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), databases, and software, focusing on efficient data management and organization.
- Collaborate with the ML/Data Team to build our Foundry API for managing and orchestrating complex biological workflows.
- Embrace a hacker mindset, leveraging your skills in software development, hardware design, and mechatronics to innovate and create custom solutions tailored to our Foundry’s unique requirements.
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, or a related field in science or engineering.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing and implementing protocols on various liquid handlers (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan, Opentrons, Echo) and integrating them with common laboratory equipment (plate readers, sealers, peelers, hotels, robotic arms, incubators, fridges, etc.).
- Proficiency in Python and experience with Git for version control; knowledge of JavaScript and reverse engineering instrument-specific communication protocols is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to design and construct integrated systems using hardware from multiple vendors.
- Experience with PyHamilton and PyLabRobot is advantageous.
- Familiarity with basic electronics and 3D printing is a plus.
