Senior Instrument Integration Engineer

Background:

As an Instrument Integration Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless integration of hardware and software components. Your expertise will be essential in guaranteeing optimal functionality throughout the entire instrument lifecycle—from concept and development to validation and market launch. In this role, you will significantly contribute to the smooth collaboration of all system components, ensuring that the final product meets the highest quality and performance standards. Your work will be foundational to the successful realization of modern diagnostic and analysis instruments essential across various applications and industries.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Integration Leadership: Lead the integration of hardware and software components, overseeing activities throughout the instrument lifecycle. Serve as the primary technical contact, ensuring seamless functionality aligned with project goals.
  • Methodological Planning: Independently design, plan, execute, and document development activities. Use advanced methodologies (e.g., Design of Experiments/DoE) to optimize experimental planning and coordination.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Spearhead interdisciplinary troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Provide expert technical insights to autonomously resolve complex issues.
  • Concept & Strategy: Contribute to product concepts, system requirements, and architecture design, ensuring compliance with project goals and diagnostic standards.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Conduct thorough analyses of test results utilizing statistical methods. Interpret trends and correlations to produce reports that facilitate strategic decision-making.
  • SME & Mentorship: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for integration, offering supervision and guidance to team members. Foster open communication and represent the project in both internal and external R&D meetings.
  • Innovation: Actively participate in innovation initiatives, contributing to intellectual property creation and continuous enhancement of quality management and integration processes.

Must Haves:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree, or a Swiss Federal Diploma from a University of Applied Sciences (FH) or College of Higher Education (HF) in a scientific or technical field (e.g., Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering), or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in medical device development.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and their application in instrument development.
  • Proven proficiency in data analysis, evaluation, and the application of statistical methods.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.
  • A high level of autonomy, proactive problem-solving skills, strong leadership and mentorship capabilities, and a commitment to collaborative, cross-functional teamwork.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of tools and IT applications such as Python, Jira, and Retina is advantageous, but not required.
