About the Role

You will be responsible for developing new third-party business in Southern Europe, with a specific emphasis on Italy and Spain, targeting a P&L of at least $5 million per annum. This role includes originating profitable new business from gas supply contracts, portfolio optimization, accessing flexibility, and credit structures, while also supporting wider TotalEnergies activities in Southern Europe, including the recently announced joint venture with EPH and various forms of gas origination—from stakeholder engagement to contract completion and delivery.

The position necessitates close collaboration with gas and LNG traders, trading support teams, legal, credit, compliance, and senior management. Together, you will define and implement the Southern Europe gas origination strategy in alignment with broader TGP and GRP objectives. Success in this role will depend on your ability to foster seamless communication and collaboration across all these teams and functions.

The primary focus markets in Southern Europe for this role will be Italy and Spain, with an additional scope that involves origination in connected countries including Austria and other Southeast Europe gas markets, such as Greece.

You will also represent TGP at external events, including conferences and industry meetings, acting as a key contributor to the Geneva-based Origination team.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Lead originator for Southern Europe gas origination.
  • Define and implement TGP’s gas origination strategy in Southern Europe.
  • Identify priority markets, counterparties, and deal structures.
  • Deliver profitable origination deals in collaboration with gas and LNG traders, including:
    • Gas supply (hedging and financing agreements)
    • Gas demand in target markets, including CCGT assets and customer portfolios
    • Flexibility solutions
    • Portfolio optimization and LNG replacement optionality at local VTPs
    • Access to physical and virtual flexibility
    • Credit structures such as pre-payments
    • Market and infrastructure access arrangements
    • Structured and financial products
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with counterparties to enhance access to opportunities and market intelligence.
  • Represent TGP in the gas wholesale trading community.
  • Support origination activities in other markets as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • You hold a degree in engineering, finance, or a related field.
  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience in energy trading, including a successful track record in gas origination in Southern Europe.
  • You possess a proven track record of delivering strong and consistent P&L results.
  • You have a robust external network within the Southern Europe gas and power industry.
  • You carry in-depth knowledge of regional gas markets and regulatory frameworks.
  • You have experience working closely with trading desks.
  • You demonstrate strong project management and negotiation skills.
  • You are forward-looking, self-motivated, and highly collaborative.

Context and Environment

TGP’s environment encompasses energy commodities handled by Trading Gas and Trading Power: principally natural gas, LNG, power, and emissions. The role operates within a dynamic environment, characterized by changing market and regulatory factors typical of the energy sector. The jobholder will support the TGP Gas Origination team to identify and propose priorities for the Trading division, shaping the agenda for the Group in line with our commitment to Better Energy.
