Senior Embedded Software Engineer / Senior Embedded Software Engineeress

Darwin Recruitment October 11, 2026

Senior Embedded Linux and BSP Software Engineer (Avionics)

Flight computers, radios, and payload processors perform optimally only when supported by a robust software stack. Our client, a dynamic national security satellite company, is seeking experienced engineers who can tackle real-world challenges from initial power-on through to on-orbit operations. They require a Senior Embedded Linux Engineer who can take full ownership of avionics bring-up tasks. If you are passionate about working at the intersection of hardware and software, this role may be the perfect fit for you.

The Role

In this position, you will lead the Linux bring-up process for new avionics hardware, taking charge of the Board Support Package (BSP), custom kernel development, device trees, bootloaders, and the low-level drivers that interface the hardware with the operating system. You will define and build the necessary infrastructure to deploy and validate these systems across flight computers, radios, and payload processors, while also creating internal tools to facilitate rapid hardware debugging both in the lab and on the production floor. Additionally, you will represent software and firmware concerns in cross-disciplinary product development, ensuring that technical risks and integration status are communicated effectively to program teams.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 9 or more years of relevant industry experience with embedded Linux kernel and BSP development
  • 5 or more years of experience with C programming
  • 5 or more years of experience with version control systems such as Git
  • US Person status required (US Citizenship necessary for clearance eligibility)

What Sets Candidates Apart

  • Familiarity with C++ and Python
  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq or Ultrascale+ SoC devices and associated design flow, including Vivado and PetaLinux (Yocto)
  • Experience with software-defined radios using AD9361 or Xilinx RFSoC devices
  • Familiarity with communication standards including SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, Ethernet, or SpaceWire
  • Proficiency with HDL simulators such as ModelSim/Questa or Xilinx Simulator (XSIM)
