Senior Embedded Software Engineer / Senior Embedded Software Engineeress

Darwin Recruitment August 25, 2026

Senior Embedded Linux and BSP Software Engineer (Avionics)

Flight computers, radios, and payload processors only perform as well as the software stack sitting closest to the metal. Our client is a fast-moving national security satellite company where engineers tackle real challenges from initial power-on to on-orbit operations. They are seeking a senior embedded Linux engineer who can take full ownership of avionics bring-up. If you thrive at the intersection of hardware and software and aspire for your work to take flight, this role could be the perfect fit for you.

The Role

You will lead Linux bring-up for new avionics hardware, taking charge of the board support package, custom kernel work, device trees, bootloaders, and low-level drivers that connect hardware to the OS. You will define and build the infrastructure needed to deploy and validate these systems across various platforms, including flight computers, radios, and payload processors. Additionally, you'll create internal tools that facilitate rapid hardware debugging both in the lab and on the production floor. Your role will also involve representing software and firmware considerations in cross-disciplinary product development and effectively communicating technical risks and integration status to program teams.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 9 or more years of relevant industry experience with embedded Linux kernel and BSP development
  • 5 or more years of experience with C programming
  • 5 or more years of experience with version control systems such as Git
  • US Person status required (US Citizenship required for clearance eligibility)

What Sets Candidates Apart

  • Familiarity with C++ and Python
  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq or Ultrascale+ SoC devices and the associated design flow, including Vivado and PetaLinux (Yocto)
  • Experience with software-defined radios using AD9361 or Xilinx RFSoC devices
  • Familiarity with communication standards including SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, Ethernet, or SpaceWire
  • Proficiency with HDL simulators such as ModelSim/Questa or Xilinx Simulator (XSIM)
