Senior Development Engineer / Senior Development Engineeress

CLIMEWORKS AG - March 17, 2026

Your Mission

As part of the Concepts & Innovation team, you will be responsible for the invention, design, and development of new CO₂ collector system architectures. This entails integrating sorbent and process requirements into practical, manufacturable equipment.

Job Description

  • Collector Concepts Development: You will invent and develop new collector system architectures that seamlessly blend sorbent technology and process requirements.
  • Prototyping: Your role includes prototyping and testing concepts and sub-systems. You will take a hands-on approach throughout the development stage, from initial proof of concept to final acceptance testing. You are expected to design and execute experiments to validate concepts, troubleshoot issues, and optimize designs effectively.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with in-house sorbent and process experts, as well as system engineers. This collaboration will help align material and process properties with mechanical implementations. By developing a comprehensive understanding of sorbent and process performance, you will innovate new methods to integrate these technologies into collectors. Additionally, you will play a vital role in the scale-up process from lab to pilot to industrial scale while balancing performance, reliability, and capital expenditures. Collaborating with the Industrialization team, you will engage in detailed engineering, manufacturing, compliance, and scaling to create a strong feedback loop that transforms innovative concepts into robust, market-ready equipment.
  • Stakeholder & Project Management: You will ensure stakeholder alignment by documenting designs, insights, and lessons learned, maintaining transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Intellectual Property: You will actively monitor the industry's state-of-the-art and contribute to the generation of new intellectual property.

Your Story

Requirements

  • Education & Engineering Expertise: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred. You should possess at least 5 years of experience in equipment development, ideally in systems involving steam, vacuum, and thermal management. Strong expertise in industrial equipment design, prototyping, and testing is essential.
  • Approach to Innovation: Hands-on experience in building and validating lab-scale or pilot-scale hardware is crucial. A proven track record of innovation and rapid prototyping, along with the ability to creatively solve engineering challenges under uncertainty, is necessary.
  • Technical Knowledge: You should have a deep understanding of detailed design, design-for-manufacture, industrialization, and the ability to scale hardware concepts from lab to industrial applications. Proficiency in CAD software (preferably SolidWorks) for designing parts and systems is expected. Familiarity with the process industry, sorbents, adsorption/desorption processes, or thermal separation technologies is a plus.
  • Mindset & Working Style: You should be comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams, bridging material science, process engineering, mechanical design, and industrialization. Strong communication skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a fail-fast, learn-fast approach are essential.
  • Language: Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is required.
