The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is a National Research Infrastructure jointly founded by EPFL and ETH Zurich, and is part of the ETH Domain. Our mission is to support academic laboratories, hospitals, industry stakeholders, and public sector entities— including cantonal and federal administrations—throughout their entire data science journey. This encompasses everything from data collection and management to machine learning, artificial intelligence, and industrialization. With a large multidisciplinary team of professionals across three locations (Lausanne, Zurich, and Villigen), the SDSC provides expertise and services across various domains, including health and biomedical sciences, energy and sustainability, climate and environment, and large-scale scientific infrastructures.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Research team, which spearheads collaborative research initiatives in both academia and the public sector.

As a Senior Data Scientist at the Swiss Data Science Center, you will leverage your expertise in machine learning, statistical data science, computer vision, natural language processing, and signal processing. You will collaborate closely with researchers and experts from various fields, such as health and biomedical sciences, climate and environment, energy and sustainability, physical and engineering sciences, and digital society. Your role will involve assisting them in identifying analytical methods to explore their data, answering specific scientific questions, and developing algorithms for complex tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Engage in data science projects alongside collaborators from the academic and public sectors.
• Provide guidance to MSc Students.
• Evaluate project proposals.

Ideal Candidate

The perfect candidate will possess:

• A PhD in machine learning, statistics, computer vision, natural language processing, signal processing, or optimization.
• Practical experience implementing machine learning models in real-world applications.
• Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, along with familiarity with cutting-edge models and architectures.
