Position: Senior Counselor / Partner
For our office in Zurich, Switzerland, QUORUS GmbH (www.quorus.ch), is actively expanding its services in Kazakhstan and is urgently seeking a Senior Counselor / Partner. We are looking for an individual with a robust academic background in Kazakh or Russian law and finance, holding an executive level education from a prestigious international university. The ideal candidate will possess a solid business network and an extensive client portfolio in Kazakhstan, complemented by significant experience in multinational legal and financial projects with a Central Asian focus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Engaging in complex international M&A and venture transactions, including negotiations, legal structuring of deals, preparation of transactional documentation, and assisting in closing.
Participating in arbitration proceedings, including strategy formulation, preparation of submissions and procedural documents, and representing the firm in hearings.
Monitoring and interpreting US, UK, EU, and Swiss sanctions against Russia, especially regarding secondary sanctions risks.
Conducting legal reviews and analyses of various contracts governed by English, European, and Swiss law, as well as corporate documentation.
Providing legal support and consultations for emerging businesses and startups, including incorporation and legal structure changes.
Facilitating the entry of Swiss/EU clients into the Kazakhstan market.
Contributing to the development of an extensive portfolio of private clients, particularly HNWIs.
Offering support and consultation to private clients with their business needs.
Maintaining active cooperation with clients, including negotiations, consulting, and potential business trips.
Your Contribution:
Legal qualification under Swiss, Kazakh, or Russian law (mandatory), with proven knowledge of the other legal systems and international qualifications at the Master of Science level in Law or Finance (mandatory); an executive education would be advantageous.
A minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience, including contract review, drafting, and legal opinion preparation.
In-depth knowledge and direct experience with the customary business and legal practices in Kazakhstan.
Former experience as a CEO or deputy CEO in nationwide companies in Kazakhstan or a comparable role elsewhere, with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
Comprehensive top-level international experience in legal and business contexts (minimum of 6 years).
Fluency in several foreign languages, including English, Kazakh, German, and Russian (mandatory), and knowledge of French or Italian would be a plus.
Expertise in managing complex multi-jurisdictional projects.
Experience working with the EBRD.
Experience serving as a board member for large corporations would be an asset.
A personal portfolio of clients.
Willingness to undertake regular business trips.
