Position Overview
For our Zurich office, QUORUS GmbH (www.quorus.ch), which is actively expanding its services in Kazakhstan, we are seeking a Senior Counselor/Partner. Ideal candidates will have a comprehensive Kazakh or Russian academic background in law and finance, prestigious international executive education, a solid business network, an extensive client portfolio in Kazakhstan, and significant experience in multinational legal and financial projects with a substantial Central Asian focus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in complex international M&A and venture transactions, including negotiations, legal structuring, documentation preparation, and assistance in closing.
Engage in arbitration proceedings supported by the firm, focusing on strategy development, submission preparations, and participation in oral pleadings and hearings.
Monitor and interpret US, UK, EU, and Swiss sanctions against Russia, with a specific focus on secondary sanction risks.
Conduct legal reviews and analyses of various contracts governed by English, European, and Swiss law, along with corporate documentation and bylaws.
Provide legal support and consultations for emerging businesses and startups, aiding in incorporation, structural changes, funding, and officer appointments.
Assist Swiss/EU clients with market entry into Kazakhstan.
Contribute to developing a robust portfolio of private clients, particularly among high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs).
Support private clients with their business needs.
Engage actively in daily collaborations with firm clients through negotiations, consulting, and business trips.
Your Contribution
A legal qualification under Swiss, Kazakh, or Russian law is essential, alongside proven knowledge and professional experience in the respective other law, and international qualifications at the Master of Science level in Law or Finance; executive level education is a plus.
6+ years of professional experience with responsibilities such as contract review and drafting, legal clarifications, and preparation of legal opinions.
Comprehensive knowledge and first-hand experience of customary business and legal practices currently in force in Kazakhstan.
Previous experience as a CEO or deputy CEO in national companies in Kazakhstan or comparable roles in Switzerland or elsewhere, with a minimum of 6+ years of experience in such positions.
Substantial top-level international experience in both legal and business domains (at least 6+ years).
Fluency in English, Kazakh, German, and Russian is required; proficiency in French or Italian would be beneficial.
