Summary
The Senior Clinical Development Medical Director (CDMD) plays a critical role in leading the strategic planning and management of assigned clinical programs from an end-to-end development perspective. As a Sr. CDMD in the Renal Therapeutic Area, you will oversee the clinical development process for assigned programs and drive the execution of the clinical development plan. Your leadership will foster an empowered organization capable of navigating a matrix environment and adapting swiftly to changing business needs.
About the Role
Major Accountabilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and strategic medical input for all clinical deliverables in the assigned project or clinical program.
- Lead the development of clinical sections of trial and program-level regulatory documents.
- Drive the execution of the assigned clinical program and/or clinical trial in collaboration with global line functions, Global Trial Directors (GTDs), and regional/country medical associates, where applicable.
- Support the Senior Global Program Clinical Head (GPCH) in ensuring the overall safety of the molecule for the assigned section; may act as a core member of the Safety Management Team (SMT) to support overall program safety reporting in collaboration with Patient Safety colleagues.
- Assist the Clinical Development Head (CDH) by providing medical input into Clinical Development Plans (CDP), Integrated Development Plans (IDP), and Clinical Trial Protocol (CTP) reviews, as well as contributing to the development of disease clinical standards for new areas.
- Act as a medical expert, supporting the (Sr.) GPCH or CDH in interactions with external and internal stakeholders and decision boards.
- Work with the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research (NIBR) to facilitate the transition of pre-PoC (Proof of Concept) projects to the Development Decision Point (DDP), and collaborate with Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) on target identification and due diligence as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- MD or equivalent medical degree required, along with advanced knowledge and clinical training in a relevant medical/scientific area; clinical practice experience of 4 years (including residency) and board certification or eligibility in a disease area preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in clinical research or drug development.
- Experience in an academic clinical research or industry environment covering clinical activities in Phases I through IV is required; at least 2 years of involvement in all aspects of conducting clinical trials (e.g., planning, executing, reporting, and publishing) in a global/matrix environment within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Proficient understanding of the disease area, with the ability to interpret, discuss, and present efficacy and safety data related to clinical trials. Proven capability to comprehend basic and clinical scientific research reports is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective scientific partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of GCP, clinical trial design, statistics, and regulatory and clinical development processes.
- Previous global people management experience preferred, including potential management in a matrix environment.
