Summary

The Senior Clinical Development Medical Director (CDMD) plays a crucial role in leading the strategic planning and management of assigned clinical programs from a comprehensive clinical development perspective. As the Sr CDMD in the Renal Therapeutic Area (TA), you will oversee clinical development for designated programs, driving the execution of the clinical development plan and fostering an empowered organization capable of adapting quickly to business needs within a matrix environment.

About the Role

Major Accountabilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing clinical leadership and strategic medical input for all clinical deliverables in the assigned project or section of a clinical program.
  • Leading the development of clinical sections for trial and program-level regulatory documents.
  • Driving the execution of the assigned clinical program and/or trial in collaboration with global line functions, Global Trial Directors (GTDs), and regional/country medical associates, where applicable.
  • Supporting the (Senior) Global Program Clinical Head (GPCH) in ensuring overall safety of the molecule for the assigned section and may act as a core member of the Safety Management Team (SMT), assisting with program safety reporting in collaboration with Patient Safety colleagues.
  • Assisting the Clinical Development Head (CDH) by providing medical input into Clinical Development Plans (CDP), Integrated Development Plans (IDP), and Clinical Trial Protocol (CTP) reviews, as well as contributing to the development of clinical standards for new disease areas.
  • As a medical expert, supporting the (Sr.) GPCH or CDH in interactions with both external and internal stakeholders, as well as decision boards.
  • Collaborating with NIBR (Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research) to facilitate the transition of pre-PoC (Proof of Concept) projects to DDP (Development Decision Point) and with BD&L (Business Development & Licensing) on target identification and due diligence, along with other medical matters as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • An MD or equivalent medical degree is required along with advanced knowledge and clinical training in the relevant medical/scientific area; clinical practice experience of 4 years (including residency) and board certification or eligibility in the disease area is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in clinical research or drug development.
  • Experience in an academic clinical research or industry environment that encompasses clinical activities in Phases I through IV is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in all aspects of conducting clinical trials (planning, executing, reporting, and publishing) in a global/matrix environment within the pharmaceutical industry is essential.
  • Proven ability to interpret and present efficacy and safety data related to clinical trials, as well as understanding and analyzing basic and clinical scientific research reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective scientific partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of GCP, clinical trial design, statistics, and regulatory and clinical development processes.
  • Previous global people management experience is preferred, including management in a matrix environment.
