Job Description
Sorbent Development: You will be at the forefront of developing future sorbent technologies, focusing on key performance indicators such as capacity, kinetics, lifetime, cost, and emissions. Stay informed on emerging technologies through literature, patents, and industry networks.
Material Screening & Characterization: Utilize advanced analytical tools for rapid technical feasibility assessments and create structured evaluation frameworks to identify promising sorbent materials in the early stages of development.
Next-Generation Sorbent Identification: Identify, evaluate, and prioritize the next generation of sorbents available in the market that meet minimal entry criteria.
Testing & Data Management: Conduct testing campaigns to assess the potential of sorbents for Climeworks’ technology. Support the establishment and maintenance of a sorbent database to identify promising candidates.
Lab Operation & Safety: Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure. Foster a safety-first culture and accurately document all experimental work.
Confidentiality & IP Management: Protect confidential concepts, arrange NDAs when necessary, and ensure patent stakeholders are informed about new ideas and designs.
Health, Safety & Environment: Adhere to Climeworks' safety rules, communicate potential risks, and participate in safety exercises and training sessions.
Requirements
- Advanced Chemistry Background: Hold an advanced degree in organic or inorganic chemistry, with a strong scientific grounding in synthetic chemistry.
- Material Synthesis and Analytics Expertise: Have 5+ years of hands-on experience in synthetic chemistry and material characterization, including at least 2 years outside of academia. Your expertise should enable the critical evaluation of materials early in development using advanced data analytics and high-throughput screening.
- Material Evaluation: Possess experience in technology scouting and external innovation by establishing evaluation frameworks (minimal entry criteria).
- Independent & Results-Driven: Comfortable leading your own workstreams, taking ownership of deliverables, and driving projects toward measurable results with high accountability.
- Strong Communication & Collaboration Skills: Excellent collaboration within cross-functional teams, capable of coordinating activities across technical and legal functions. You can articulate complex scientific concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Language & Travel: Proficient in spoken and written English, facilitating effective communication in an international environment.

Formalities
This position is based in Opfikon, Zurich, and we require you to work onsite at least three days per week.
