Job Description
Sorbent Development: You will develop future sorbent technologies based on key performance indicators, including capacity, kinetics, lifetime, cost, and emissions, while keeping up to date with emerging sorbent technologies through literature, patents, and industry networks.
Material Screening & Characterization: Utilize advanced analytical tools for rapid technical feasibility assessments and develop structured evaluation frameworks to identify promising sorbent materials in the early stages of development.
Next-Generation Sorbent Identification: Identify, evaluate, and prioritize the next generation of sorbents available in the market that meet minimal entry criteria.
Testing & Data Management: Conduct testing campaigns to assess the potential of sorbents for Climeworks technology and support the development and maintenance of a sorbent database to identify promising candidates.
Lab Operation & Safety: Ensure proper operation and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure, foster a safety-first culture, and accurately document all experimental work.
Confidentiality & IP Management: Protect confidential concepts, arrange NDAs when necessary, and keep patent stakeholders informed about new ideas and designs.
Health, Safety & Environment: Adhere to Climeworks safety regulations, communicate potential risks, and participate in safety exercises and training.
Requirements
- Advanced Chemistry Background: Hold an advanced degree in organic or inorganic chemistry, complemented by a strong scientific foundation in synthetic chemistry.
- Material Synthesis and Analytics Expertise: Bring over 5 years of hands-on experience in synthetic chemistry and material characterization, with at least 2 years spent outside of academia. This expertise enables you to critically evaluate materials in the early stages of development through advanced data analytics and high-throughput screening.
- Material Evaluation: Experience in technology scouting and external innovation, with skills in establishing evaluation frameworks (minimal entry criteria).
- Independent & Results-Driven: Comfortable leading your own workstreams, taking ownership of deliverables, and consistently driving projects toward measurable results. You work proactively and maintain a high level of accountability.
- Strong Communication & Collaboration Skills: A proven collaborator within a cross-functional team, capable of coordinating contracts across technical and legal functions. You communicate clearly and confidently, able to translate complex scientific concepts into understandable messages for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Language & Travel: Proficient in English, both spoken and written, facilitating smooth communication in an international environment.

Formalities
This position is based in Opfikon, Zurich, and we require that you work onsite at least three days per week.
