Your Mission
Job Description
- Sorbent Development: You will develop future sorbent technologies based on key performance indicators (capacity, kinetics, lifetime, cost, and emissions) while staying informed about emerging sorbent technologies through literature, patents, and industry networks.
- Material Screening & Characterization: You will utilize advanced analytical tools for rapid technical feasibility assessments and develop structured evaluation frameworks to identify promising sorbent materials in the early stage of development.
- Next-Generation Sorbent Identification: You will identify, evaluate, and prioritize the next generation of sorbents available in the market that meet minimal entry criteria.
- Testing & Data Management: You will conduct testing campaigns to assess sorbent potential for Climeworks’ technology and support the development and maintenance of a sorbent database to identify promising candidates.
- Lab Operation & Safety: You will ensure proper operation and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure, implement a safety-first culture, and accurately document all experimental work.
- Confidentiality & IP Management: You will protect confidential concepts, arrange NDAs when necessary, and ensure patent stakeholders are informed of new ideas and designs.
- Health, Safety & Environment: You will follow Climeworks safety protocols, communicate potential risks, and participate in safety exercises and training.
Your Story
Requirements
- Advanced Chemistry Background: You hold an advanced degree in organic or inorganic chemistry and possess a robust scientific background in material development.
- Material Synthesis and Analytics Expertise: You have over 5 years of experience in hands-on synthetic chemistry and material characterization, ideally familiar with porous materials, enabling critical evaluation of materials at an early development stage using advanced data analytics and high-throughput screening.
- Material Evaluation: You have experience in technology scouting and external innovation, including the establishment of evaluation frameworks with minimal entry criteria.
- Independent & Results-Driven: You are comfortable leading your own workstreams, take ownership of deliverables, and consistently drive projects toward measurable results while demonstrating a proactive mindset and high accountability.
- Strong Communication & Collaboration Skills: You excel in collaboration within a cross-functional team, coordinate contracts across technical and legal functions, and communicate clearly, confidently translating complex scientific concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Language & Travel: You are proficient in English, both spoken and written, ensuring smooth communication in an international environment.

Salary
At Climeworks, salary ranges are assigned based on the level of seniority and the local market median for similar jobs, determined by external benchmarking surveys. Individual compensation depends on your skills, experience, and the value you bring to our team.
Formalities
This position is based in Opfikon, Zurich, and requires you to work onsite at least three days per week.
The percentage in the job title indicates flexibility – choose between full-time or part-time based on what works best for you.
