Job Opportunity: Senior Bioinformatics Analyst

The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health is at the forefront of discovery and translational research focused on personalized health. Our team offers a wide array of expertise, encompassing software engineering, biomedical data management, lab automation, and screening services. Within this multidisciplinary environment, our clinical bioinformatics group leverages its specialized knowledge in bioinformatics and statistics to propel advancements in biomedical research and clinical applications.

We are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Analyst for the Clinical Bioinformatics Group at NEXUS Personalized Health in Basel, to start immediately or as mutually agreed upon.

Position Overview

This role is primarily focused on project-specific analyses of diverse, high-throughput multi-omics datasets, which include a variety of data types such as whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing, single-cell data, and spatial data. As the Senior Bioinformatics Analyst, you will be instrumental in designing, executing, and documenting analytical workflows while adhering to scientific rigor and best practices.

While you will lead your assigned analyses, collaboration is key. You will work closely with the group lead and other experts within the NEXUS team, balancing independent analytical work with active participation in project planning, interpretation, and dissemination of results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain reproducible analysis pipelines and software tools to enhance the team’s shared infrastructure.
  • Ensure data management complies with the FAIR principles.
  • Support partners in implementing best practices for Research Data Management (RDM).
  • Contribute to projects that span biomedical research and clinical diagnostics, including NGS data processing, clinical reporting, and public health surveillance.

NEXUS collaborates closely with academic institutions and hospitals, fostering a dynamic environment where scientific excellence and collaboration lead to impactful outcomes.

Qualifications

  • MSc (or higher) in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research involving molecular datasets.
  • Proven ability to extract biological insights and visualize complex multi-omics data.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing genomics and/or transcriptomics sequencing data.
  • Solid programming skills in Python or R.
  • Familiarity with HPC environments and Bash scripting.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI or machine learning methods.
  • Background in statistics or software development.
  • Familiarity with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
  • Knowledge of German is a plus.
