Role Overview
As a Senior Azure Platform Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the platform’s evolution and readiness for what’s next. You will report to the CTO, work within a dynamic engineering team of around 15, and have the autonomy to make impactful decisions without micromanagement. We prioritize building over meetings and slide decks while working AI-first with tools like Claude, Cursor, and Azure CLI.
What You'll Make Happen
Platform & Infrastructure Ownership
- Own and evolve our Azure environment (Container Apps, Functions, storage, networking, data pipelines).
- Scale our scraping and vision extraction systems as data volumes grow.
- Automate provisioning and operations (IaC where applicable, AI-assisted tooling where it increases efficiency).
- Build actionable observability: monitoring, alerting, and cost tracking that provides meaningful insights.
DevOps & Team Enablement
- Create CI/CD pipelines that empower engineers to deploy agents swiftly and safely.
- Ensure that the engineering team is unblocked on infrastructure-related topics.
- Establish patterns and standards to simplify the platform for future development.
- Document key decisions and systems clearly to facilitate team scaling.
Platform Evolution
- Architect for future needs, including MLOps readiness and multi-vertical scaling.
- Optimise Azure spending responsibly (including a $44 million commitment for efficient usage).
- Support Microsoft partnership requirements when necessary.
What Eases Your Start
You'll thrive if you:
- Work AI-first, utilizing tools like Claude, Cursor, and Copilot in your operations.
- Have extensive experience (5+ years) building and running systems on Azure, with knowledge of reliable operations.
- Prioritize automation, using Terraform, Bicep, or AI-assisted infrastructure management to maintain platform predictability.
- Communicate clearly and drive initiatives forward proactively.
- Are comfortable using Python to script, build internal tools, and create utilities that enhance system operations.
Stand Out If You Bring
- Experience in scaling data acquisition and pipelines.
- Exposure to MLOps/DataOps, including Azure ML and Databricks.
- A proven track record of improving infrastructure while maintaining system stability.
- Ability to communicate technical trade-offs effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
Practical Requirements
Swiss/EU/EFTA citizenship or a valid Swiss work permit is required, along with availability to work on-site in Zurich (this is not a fully remote role).
