Salt is seeking a Security Engineer to assist in the implementation and evolution of its mobile and fixed network security strategy. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the network security architect and cross-functional teams to translate risks into controls, implement telecom-specific security solutions, and integrate security into engineering decisions throughout Salt’s core infrastructure.
Your Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of Salt’s telecom security roadmap across SS7, Diameter, 5G, fixed access, and interconnect.
- Support and enforce security controls for core and edge network domains (CS, PS, IMS, 5G SA, fixed).
- Monitor and enhance hardening standards, including the validation of IAM implementations in accordance with Salt’s security policy.
- Collaborate with IT, Core, Transport, and RAN teams to identify and mitigate telecom-specific threats.
- Contribute to threat modeling and protect critical assets (confidentiality, integrity, availability).
- Investigate vulnerabilities and support remediation efforts for mobile and fixed network components.
- Assist in maintaining Salt’s network risk register.
- Translate IT security knowledge into telco network security practices.
- Ensure compliance with requirements (ISO 27001/11, Swiss regulations, NIS, etc.).
- Provide insights on secure architecture for new domains (e.g., 5G).
- Support internal and external audits, incident response planning, and security maturity reviews.
- Foster security awareness and best practices across engineering and operations teams.
What You Bring
- A degree in engineering, telecommunications, cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Experience with or ability to learn telecom protocols: SS7, MAP, Diameter, GTP, SIP, RTP, HTTP2.
- A deep understanding of Linux.
- Familiarity with core network architecture (CS, PS, IMS, VoLTE, 5G) is preferred.
- Knowledge of security controls, detection mechanisms, and IAM.
- Familiarity with security frameworks like ISO 27001/11, NIS, BCP, etc.
- Experience with CVE management, vulnerability scanning, and risk evaluation.
- Strong awareness of the application of AI and automation in both attack techniques and defensive network security strategies.
- Exposure to virtualized and container-based network platforms (OpenStack, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Proficiency with security tools, scripting, and automation.
- Self-motivated, pragmatic, and eager to tackle real-world challenges.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Proficiency in English; German or French is a plus.
