Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) - March 1, 2026

Your Tasks

  • Contribute, as part of an interdisciplinary and international team, to multiple ion-trapping projects operated at both room and cryogenic temperatures, with applications ranging from scalable quantum computing to quantum sensing.
  • Lead a primary research program and develop an independent research line within the scientific scope of the group.
  • Supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, coordinating the work of technical staff.
  • Contribute to collaborative and cross-disciplinary projects within the group and the institute.
  • Develop and lead competitive grant proposals to support both independent and joint research activities.

Your Profile

  • PhD in physics, ideally focused on ion trap quantum computation or a closely related field.
  • Several years of postdoctoral research experience with increasing scientific independence.
  • Excellent publication record in quantum science and technology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and operating quantum science experiments.
  • Strong knowledge of experimental quantum physics techniques.
  • Experience with optical systems (including lasers, detectors, fiber optics, and associated electronics); this is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
  • Strong track record—or clear potential—in acquiring competitive research funding.
