CorFlow is a Swiss med-tech start-up founded in 2016 by renowned interventional cardiologists and medical device entrepreneurs. The company has recently completed a major financing round, enabling the expansion of its clinical program and employee team.
At CorFlow, we envision being the leader in diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for restoring healthy microvascular blood flow in areas of critical need within the human body. We are developing a medical device designed to assess Microvascular Obstructions (MVO) in real-time during PCI, serving as a treatment platform while the patient is still in the cath lab.
Our mission is rooted in scientific excellence, driven by compassion for the welfare of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) patients.
Position Overview
We seek a dedicated professional to reinforce our young, passionate, and dynamic team in Bern. As an R&D Scientist, you will enhance CorFlow’s upstream innovation pipeline by exploring, shaping, and prioritizing new projects and medical indications for CorFlow’s platform. In parallel, you will support the team in planning, executing, and documenting pre-clinical investigations with external partners, ensuring high scientific quality and alignment with CorFlow’s strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Innovation Project and Indication Scouting:
- Identify opportunities for innovation pipeline based on clinical need, business opportunity, technical feasibility, competitive landscape, and strategic fit.
- Conduct literature reviews and landscape analyses to inform opportunity assessments.
- Document findings in the internal knowledge base.
- Support the development of new intellectual property (IP) by documenting inventions, conducting prior-art/literature reviews, and contributing to invention disclosures and patent-filing packages.
- Contribute to preparing business cases to advance new projects.
- Pre-clinical Research:
- Support pre-clinical study planning, design, execution, and reporting in collaboration with R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, CRO, and academic partners.
- Analyze and interpret pre-clinical results, summarizing content for internal and external presentations.
- Contribute to study documentation (protocols, test plans, reports) according to company procedures and the quality management system.
- Support the preparation of scientific content for internal purposes, scientific publications, and external communication.
Desired Qualifications
- PhD in biomedical sciences, bioengineering, pharmacology, physiology, or a related life science discipline.
- Background in cardiovascular research, particularly in myocardial infarction and the coronary microvasculature, including microvascular dysfunction and obstruction.
- Hands-on experience in pre-clinical research (in-vivo), including study planning, data analysis, and reporting.
- Documented track record in developing successful grant applications, scientific abstracts, posters, presentations, and publications.
- Experience in developing patent filing packages.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment with changing priorities and cross-functional interfaces.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills; ability to write clear scientific documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with external research partners (e.g., CROs, academic labs) and managing deliverables in a collaborative environment.
- Familiarity with documentation expectations in regulated environments under quality management systems.
