The Chair of Landscape Architecture and Geohistorical Practice, led by Assistant Professor Aisling O’Carroll, at the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich, is seeking a highly motivated scientific assistant to support the research and teaching activities of the Chair. This fixed-term position spans nine months, ending in February 2027, with the possibility of extension.
The Chair focuses on interdisciplinary design, history, and theory research within the Master of Science in Landscape Architecture (MScLA) program. We employ geohistorical practices to integrate tools from both the natural sciences and humanities, developing proposals that engage diverse stakeholders and address pressing climate challenges. Our research bridges landscape architectural design with comprehensive explorations of history and theory, utilizing methodologies that combine digital sensing, drawing and modeling, archival research, and adaptive design practices for landscapes affected by climate change.
A primary teaching responsibility includes delivering the MScLA second-year advanced design studio, where students create large-scale landscape architectural proposals through directed research and iterative design studies. The studio, which takes place during the autumn semester, integrates fieldwork, historical study, and both digital and analog design methods, challenging students to consider the evolving narratives of landscapes in relation to their past and future.
We are looking for a scientific assistant(s) (40-80%) to support the team through research activities and teaching the MSc Landscape Architecture advanced design studio. Each task—teaching and research—constitutes a 40% role. Candidates may apply for one of the roles or both. Your tasks will include:
