The Chair of Landscape Architecture and Geohistorical Practice, led by Assist. Professor Aisling O-Carroll at the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich, is seeking a highly motivated scientific assistant to support research and teaching activities. This fixed-term position is nine months, concluding at the end of February 2027, with the potential for extension.
The Chair engages in research and teaching activities aligned with the Master of Science in Landscape Architecture (MScLA) program, developing interdisciplinary research that merges design, history, and theory in landscape architecture. Our geohistorical practice integrates methods from both natural sciences and humanities to address pressing climate challenges by involving a diverse range of stakeholders.
As part of our teaching responsibilities, we run the MScLA second-year advanced design studio, where students create large-scale landscape architectural proposals through intensive research and iterative design processes. The studio combines fieldwork, archival study, and various design methods to address the complexities of dynamic landscapes, considering both their human and non-human histories.
This advanced design studio is conducted in the autumn semester, with the spring semester dedicated to preparation and research, accommodating approximately 20 students each semester.
ETH Zurich's MScLA program is housed within the Department of Architecture (D-ARCH), a leader in architectural education globally, known for high teaching standards and exceptional research outcomes. The program trains emerging landscape architects to effectively respond to complex, unforeseen challenges, emphasizing observation, experimentation, and innovative thinking.
