The Chair of Landscape Architecture and Geohistorical Practice, led by Assist. Professor Aisling O’Carroll in the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich, is inviting applications for a motivated scientific assistant to support our research and teaching activities. This position is fixed-term for nine months, ending in February 2027, with the potential for extension.
Our Chair is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and teaching within the Master of Science in Landscape Architecture (MScLA) program. We focus on integrating tools from the natural sciences and humanities with design practices to address pressing climate challenges through geohistorical practice. Our work seeks to develop methodologies that combine digital sensing, drawing, modeling, archival research, and design practices, enabling innovative ways to read and adapt landscapes undergoing transformation due to climate change.
One of the primary roles of the Chair is to conduct the advanced design studio for second-year MScLA students during the autumn semester. Students in this studio engage in large-scale landscape architectural proposals through directed research and iterative design studies, integrating fieldwork, archival studies, and both digital and analog design methods. They are encouraged to explore dynamic landscapes by considering their histories and future trajectories.
