We are seeking a qualified School Assistant to join our team starting 1 August 2025. The core hours for the role are 15.00 - 18.00 from Monday to Thursday and 13.00 - 18.00 on Fridays, with the opportunity to increase to an 80% workload.

Job Description: School Assistant

School Assistants (SAs) support teachers and students through active engagement during lessons, resource management, and supervision during breaks and after school activities. SAs work with diverse age groups, ensuring a friendly, proactive, adaptable, and reliable environment.

Key Responsibilities

Student Supervision

  • Encourage inclusive play and social engagement while maintaining safety guidelines.
  • Support supervision during off-site activities, trips, and events.
  • Monitor student behavior during breaks and lunch, fostering a positive atmosphere.
  • Build relationships with students to promote confidence and emotional well-being.
  • Assist children in developing social skills and positive behavior.

Classroom & Teacher Support

  • Help in organizing classroom materials, resources, and displays.
  • Support the setup of learning activities and maintain an organized classroom environment.
  • Assist in classrooms or small groups as needed.

After School Programmes

  • Plan and supervise engaging after school activities.
  • Maintain registers to ensure accountability and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding after school programme details.

Resource Management

  • Manage the Resource Room, ensuring materials are organized and in good condition.
  • Oversee playground toys and equipment, ensuring safe use and upkeep.
  • Ensure all activity spaces are clean and resources are properly stored.
  • Keep an inventory of teaching resources and notify staff when restocking is needed.

School Assistants may also lead or support the vacation programme, with a functional allowance for this responsibility.

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development activities as scheduled.
  • Complete annual safeguarding and first aid training.

Head of Programmes

Working Hours

Full-time position of 42 hours per week (100% workload), with work hours scheduled between 9.00 and 18.00.

All staff must be prepared at their designated start time. For example, a School Assistant starting at 10.00 for break supervision must be ready in their assigned location at that time.
