Noriware AG - April 27, 2025

Innovator Wanted for Scaling Up Plastic-Free Seaweed Packaging

Are you an engineer passionate about bridging the gap between lab-scale innovation and full-scale production? Do you thrive on finding creative solutions to manufacturing challenges and want to play a key role in scaling up seaweed-based packaging materials to revolutionize the industry?

noriware is an innovative materials science company specializing in the development of advanced materials processing technologies. We are creating breakthrough algae-based alternatives for packaging and a variety of plastic products. By integrating biochemistry with existing machinery and infrastructure in the plastics industry, we set new standards for sustainable, mechanically functional packaging films. Our highly skilled team of scientists and industry experts continuously drives innovation to develop industrial applications for our materials and accelerate the transition to plastic-free solutions.

Your Role

As a Scale-Up Engineer at noriware, you will be responsible for bringing our innovative seaweed-based materials from lab to pilot and ultimately to full-scale production. You will work at the intersection of R&D, manufacturing, and business development, ensuring our materials can be efficiently and sustainably produced at scale. This role requires both a technical and strategic mindset. You will not only refine processes but also identify the right partners, technologies, and production methods to bring our material to market.

Your Tasks

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for algae-based materials, ensuring scalability, cost-efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Identify, evaluate, and collaborate with manufacturing partners to set up scalable production lines.
  • Explore and test new manufacturing methods (e.g., casting, extrusion, coating) to optimize material production.
  • Assess, integrate, and implement new machines or modifications to existing infrastructure for production.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications and process documentation for scale-up and production.
  • Work closely with scientists, engineers, and business teams to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with commercialization goals.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of processing techniques, ideally with experience in bio-based materials.
  • Hands-on experience with process optimization and commercialization of innovative materials.
  • Experience in working with polysaccharides or water-soluble materials is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset, capable of driving scale-up projects independently.

Our Team

Our team at noriware consists of highly qualified and dedicated experts from various disciplines. Together, we combine extensive experience in materials science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, and product management to achieve our visionary goals and shape the future of plastic-free materials.

What We Offer

  • A pioneering role in scaling a first-of-its-kind sustainable material.
  • A challenging and varied job in a future-oriented company.
  • Opportunities for professional development and further training.
  • An open and collegial working atmosphere.
  • Individual employee benefits platform.
