Position Overview
As a part of Apollo, ISGI operates as the dedicated investment office for large, strategic, and sophisticated insurance and pension clients. These clients are investing over €15bn into “Return Seeking” (RS) assets managed by ISGI, which includes a variety of evolving private debt and equity-like investments, all originated and underwritten by Apollo. The strategy is grounded in a relative value-oriented approach, emphasizing consistent outperformance and capital preservation for insurance and pension funds while adhering to their local regulatory constraints.
Our investments encompass a wide range of credit, real assets, and equity-like opportunities sourced from various jurisdictions and markets worldwide. The ISGI RS team in Zurich spearheads this endeavor, providing comprehensive support for insurance clients in portfolio management, investment selection, analytics, reporting, and educational materials, as well as guidance on Solvency II optimization. We aim to construct robust portfolios of private investments and assist clients in defending these setups to local regulators and boards.
Role Overview
This Associate role focuses on integrating with the team responsible for originating and managing private investments while working closely with Israeli insurance companies on the client side. The ideal candidate will enable these clients to allocate assets to private investments within the constraints of Israeli regulations. The successful hire will be fully integrated with the Zurich-based RS team that originates private investments globally. A mindset dedicated to enhancing economics, insights, and service quality through expertise, strong client relationships, and a collaborative, cross-functional approach is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
- The role is focused on private investments originating across markets and jurisdictions by Apollo, aimed at being placed on the balance sheets of regulated Israeli insurance and pension funds.
- Develop constructive client relationships in Israel, building trust and understanding of their regulatory constraints to facilitate interactions with management, investment committees, auditors, and regulators.
- Prepare and present summaries for Israeli investors on new deals specifically originated by Apollo to aid their decision-making processes.
- Defend investment decisions, coordinate governance for efficient approvals, and prepare necessary investment and reporting material within the regulatory framework, including compliance with the Solvency II prudent person principle.
- Collaborate internally with Apollo deal teams to originate and structure new deals that meet the needs and constraints of Israeli clients.
- Understand, prepare, and adjust investor reports, as well as provide ad hoc responses for both internal (management information) and external use (client regulatory reporting).
- Apply and develop analytics to track and project capital activity, returns, forecasting, capital consumption, drawdown risk, diversification, and other metrics essential for constructing portfolios of private investments.
Qualifications and Experience
- 3+ years of relevant experience in investment functions within a large insurance company, insurance asset management firm, investment bank focusing on insurance solutions or structuring, consulting firm specializing in insurance regulation or law, or alternative asset management group.
- Prior experience with alternative investments/private investments is essential.
- Solid understanding of fixed income principles, capital markets, and private origination across asset-backed and corporate finance.
- Familiarity with Solvency II regulation, including Standard Formula calculations for private assets, and understanding the differences between the Israeli adoption compared to the continental European framework. Experience in documenting investment decisions against these frameworks and awareness of Prudent Person Principle (PPP) requirements is required.
- Ability to defend investment proposals to clients, along with strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and willingness to consistently exceed expectations.
- Capable of performing under high pressure, multitasking, and responding quickly and decisively to requests.
- Proficiency in SQL, VBA, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for efficient data manipulation, portfolio reporting, and modeling, especially concerning private investment portfolios.
- Excellent academic background in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Fluency in English, Hebrew, and one other language is required.
