POSITION OVERVIEW
As part of Apollo, ISGI serves as the dedicated investment office for large, strategic, and sophisticated insurance and pension clients. These clients are investing over €15 billion in "Return Seeking" (RS) assets managed by ISGI, which include a diverse range of private debt and equity-like investments, all originated and underwritten by Apollo. Our strategy employs a relative value-oriented approach, focusing on consistent outperformance and capital preservation for insurance and pension funds within their local regulatory frameworks.
The ISGI RS team in Zurich spearheads these initiatives and provides comprehensive support to insurance clients in portfolio management, investment selection, analytics, reporting, and educational resources while assisting with Solvency II optimization. The team is dedicated to constructing portfolios of private investments and helping clients navigate regulatory environments and interactions with their boards.
This Associate role emphasizes integration with the team for the origination and management of private investments, specifically working with Israeli insurance companies. The aim is to facilitate their asset allocation in private investments while adhering to the constraints imposed by Israeli regulations. The successful candidate will need to collaborate seamlessly with the Zurich-based RS team actively involved in global private investment origination, seeking to enhance our team's economics, insights, and service through dedication, expertise, and strong client relationships.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The role focuses on private investments that are (i) originated by Apollo across various markets and jurisdictions, and (ii) intended for regulated Israeli insurance and pension fund balance sheets.
- Build strong client relationships in Israel based on trust and an understanding of their operational constraints, supporting their interactions with management, investment committees, auditors, and regulators.
- Prepare and present summaries for Israeli investors on new deals specifically originated by Apollo to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Defend investment decisions and coordinate governance processes for efficient approvals while preparing necessary investment and reporting materials within the regulatory framework.
- Liaise internally with Apollo deal teams, assisting in the origination and structuring of new deals tailored to the needs and constraints of Israeli clients.
- Prepare and adjust investor reports and provide ad hoc responses for both internal management and external regulatory reporting.
- Develop and apply analytics to track and project capital activity, returns, forecasting, capital consumption, diversification, and other metrics essential to constructing portfolios of private investments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of relevant experience in investment functions within (i) a large insurance company, (ii) an insurance asset management company, (iii) an investment bank focused on insurance solutions or structuring, (iv) a consulting firm specializing in insurance regulation or law, or (v) an alternative asset management group.
- Essential prior experience with alternative and private investments.
- Understanding of fixed income principles, capital markets, and private origination in asset-backed and corporate finance.
- Knowledge of Solvency II regulation, including Standard Formula calculations for private assets, as well as the differences between Israeli adoption and continental European frameworks. Experience in documenting investment decisions related to these frameworks and familiarity with Prudential Person Principle (PPP) requirements is expected.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to defend investment proposals to clients and possess strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
- A self-starter with a robust work ethic, willing to go the extra mile consistently.
- Capability to perform under pressure, multi-task effectively, and respond quickly to deliver on requests.
- Solid proficiency in SQL, VBA, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for efficient data manipulation, portfolio reporting, and modeling, particularly regarding private investment portfolios, is mandatory.
- Excellent academic credentials in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Fluency in English, Hebrew, and one additional language is required.
