POSITION OVERVIEW

As part of Apollo, ISGI serves as the dedicated investment office for large, strategic, and sophisticated insurance and pension clients. These clients are investing over €15 billion into “Return Seeking” (RS) assets managed by ISGI, which includes a variety of evolving private debt and equity-like investments originated and underwritten by Apollo. Our strategy employs a relative value-oriented approach that prioritizes consistent outperformance and capital preservation, all while adhering to the local regulatory constraints of our insurance and pension fund clients.

Investments span a wide spectrum of credit, real assets, and equity-like opportunities, sourced from various jurisdictions and global markets. The ISGI RS team based in Zurich spearheads this initiative, providing vital support to insurance clients in areas such as portfolio management, investment selection, analytics, reporting, and educational resources regarding Solvency II optimization. Our team is dedicated to constructing portfolios of private investments and assisting clients in justifying these portfolios to local regulators and boards. The Analyst role is centered on becoming an integral part of our team, focusing on the origination and management of private investments. A continuous improvement mindset is essential, as we strive to enhance the value, insights, and services we offer through expertise, client relationships, and a collaborative, cross-functional approach.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Focus on private investments that are originated across markets and jurisdictions by Apollo and are intended for placement on regulated insurance and pension fund balance sheets.
  • Prepare and present summaries for investors regarding new deals specifically originated by Apollo to facilitate their decision-making process.
  • Defend investment decisions, coordinate necessary governance for efficient approvals, and prepare investment and reporting materials required for implementation within the regulatory framework, including compliance with the Solvency II prudent person principle.
  • Understand, prepare, and revise investor reports and ad hoc responses for both internal management and external client regulatory reporting.
  • Develop and apply analytics to monitor and project capital activity, returns, forecasts, capital consumption, drawdown risk, diversification, and other metrics essential for constructing private investment portfolios.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in investment functions within:
    • a large insurance company,
    • an insurance asset management firm,
    • an investment bank specializing in insurance solutions or structuring,
    • a consulting firm focused on insurance regulation or law,
    • or an alternative asset management group.
  • Previous experience with alternative investments/private investments is essential.
  • Understanding of fixed income principles, capital markets, and private origination across asset-backed and corporate finance.
  • Familiarity with Solvency II regulations, including Standard Formula calculation and assessment for private assets. Must have experience in documenting investment decisions against these frameworks, along with an understanding of Prudent Person Principle (PPP) requirements.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic, consistently willing to go the extra mile.
  • Able to perform under high pressure, manage multiple tasks, and respond quickly and decisively to deliver results.
  • Solid proficiency in SQL, VBA, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for effective data manipulation, portfolio reporting, and modeling, specifically for private investment portfolios, is mandatory.
  • Excellent academic background in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Fluency in English, German, and one additional European language is required.
