POSITION OVERVIEW
Part of Apollo, ISGI serves as the dedicated investment office catering to large, strategic, and sophisticated insurance and pension clients. These clients collectively invest over €15bn into "Return Seeking" (RS) assets managed by ISGI, which encompasses a diverse array of evolving private debt and equity-like investments, all originated and underwritten by Apollo. Our strategy adopts a relative value-oriented approach with an unwavering focus on consistent outperformance and capital preservation, while adhering to local regulatory constraints.
Investments span a wide range of credit, real assets, and equity-like opportunities, sourced from various jurisdictions and markets worldwide. The ISGI RS team based in Zurich spearheads this initiative, supporting insurance clients in portfolio management, investment selection, analytics, reporting, and educational resources while providing guidance on Solvency II optimization. The team is dedicated to constructing robust portfolios of private investments and assisting clients in their engagements with local regulators and boards. This Analyst role is centered on integrating into the team to enhance the origination and management of private investments, requiring a mindset geared towards continuous improvement in economic performance, insights, and service through dedication, expertise, strong client relationships, and a collaborative, cross-functional approach.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role concentrates on private investments that are (i) originated across various markets and jurisdictions by Apollo, and (ii) intended for placement on regulated insurance and pension fund balance sheets. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and presenting summaries for investors about new deals specifically originated by Apollo to facilitate their decision-making process.
- Defending investment decisions, coordinating necessary governance for efficient approvals, and preparing investment and reporting materials required for implementation within the regulatory framework, including Solvency II's prudent person principle.
- Understanding, preparing, and adjusting investor reports and ad hoc responses for both internal (management information) and external (client regulatory reporting) purposes.
- Applying and developing analytics to track and project capital activity, returns, forecasting, capital consumption, drawdown risk, diversification, and other metrics aimed at constructing portfolios of private investments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- 3+ years relevant experience in investment functions within (i) a large insurance company, (ii) an insurance asset management firm, (iii) an investment bank specializing in insurance solutions or structuring, (iv) a consulting firm with a focus on insurance regulation or law, or (v) an alternative asset management group.
- Previous experience with alternative investments/private investments is essential.
- Strong understanding of fixed income principles, capital markets, and private origination in asset-backed and corporate finance.
- Familiarity with Solvency II regulations, including Standard Formula calculations and assessments for private assets, with tangible experience in documenting investment decisions against these frameworks while being knowledgeable about Prudent Person Principle (PPP) requirements.
- A self-starter with a robust work ethic, demonstrating a willingness to consistently exceed expectations.
- The ability to thrive under pressure, multitask, and respond quickly and decisively to requests.
- Solid proficiency in SQL, VBA, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for effective data manipulation, portfolio reporting, and modeling, particularly in private investment portfolios.
- An excellent academic background in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Fluency in English, German, and one other European language is required.
